4th Annual Nelson Mandela Commemoration
On Sunday, December 3, 2017, the Immigrant & Refugee Resource Village of Albuquerque (IRRVA)
invites the community to the FOURTH annual commemoration of the life and ideals of Nelson Mandela,
South African patriot, president, and Nobel Peace Prize winner. This event will be celebrated from 4pm-
5:30pm at the African American Performing Arts Center (AAPAC), 310 San Pedro Drive, NE, and will
include dancers, singers, speakers, and light refreshments.
After spending 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela was set free in 1990.
Following release, Mandela, affectionately known to his people by his
clan name “Madiba,” negotiated peace in a racially-divided, apartheid
South Africa. Mandela also helped to lead the international battle for
human rights. For his efforts, Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace
Prize in 1993. The next year, Mandela was elected president of South
Mandela’s commitment and struggle for peace and justice, along with his
spirit of compassion and forgiveness, continue to serve as a beacon of
light in these troubled times.
IRRVA invites you to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s remarkable life as we
mark the 4th anniversary of his passing in 2013 on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017
from 4pm to 5:30pm at the African American Performing Arts Center.
The many families who are the beneficiaries of IRRVA’s programs, Board members and program volunteers all
look forward to greeting you.
